In 1907, the late John F. Mudd began the general practice of law at an office on Main Street in La Plata, the new County Seat of Charles County, Maryland. In 1933. his son, F. DeSales Mudd, joined him, creating Mudd and Mudd, one of Southern Maryland's most active and best known law firms. The firm expanded and moved it's office to the Idamont Building in 1956. In the sixties, the founder's two grandsons, Thomas F. Mudd and John F. Mudd, joined their father's practice. During the sixties and seventies, our firm continued to expand the staff and the variety of legal services offered. In 1978, Stephen P. Fitzgerald joined the firm and in 1986, Mudd, Mudd and Fitzgerald moved to its present office in the Sydney E. Mudd House, St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland. Although destroyed by the 2001 tornado that struck the La Plata area, the office complex was completely rebuilt and enlarged in 2003.
